Prenatal/Postpartum Periods
My clients are 30 and 40 something year-old women navigating the physical, emotional, and psychological impacts of pregnancy and the transition to parenthood.
They are thinking about their relationship to work and their place in the world. They’re trying to figure out what it means to be a mother while sorting through other parts of their identity.
Many of my clients have a history of eating disorders or body image issues that have resurfaced after childbirth. For some, feeding a baby brings up many of those old fears and concerns. Family members’ comments hit in a new way.
My clients often notice new relationship dynamics with their partners and family members that feel overwhelming in addition to coping with the demands of motherhood. They’re thinking about the mental load and how to meet everybody’s needs, including their own.
For some, postpartum anxiety, depression, and OCD emerge.
Together, we will explore deeply-rooted beliefs, feelings, and thought patterns. We will develop awareness of internal and external expectations of this phase of life, build self-compassion, and focus both on gaining insight and finding manageable ways forward.
If any of this resonates, I encourage you to reach out for a free consultation.
